V4-countries on the path of deliberative democracy (2022)

Communication, cooperation, shared decisions. The basic concepts and principles of deliberative democracy have made a comeback in several countries in the past few years. Recently, the Visegrad countries have also followed suit, however, for the methods of deliberation to become integral parts of political decision-making, there is still a long way to go.

Deliberation based on participatory methods – methods that initiate a constructive search for a common ground and understanding between citizens – has been scarce in our region. How can deliberative methods (especially citizens’ assemblies) be more widespread in this region?

The aim of the project is to promote discussion around deliberative democracies, present the good practices of citizens’ assemblies, and to foster the exchange of different experiences between countries on the expert, as well as the decision-making level.
